Gunmen kill 10, destroy houses in Ebonyi community attack

A devastating attack on Amegu Nkalaha Community in Ebonyi State’s Ishielu Local Government Area has left 10 people dead and several others injured.

The assault, carried out by unidentified gunmen, also resulted in the selective burning of houses and destruction of properties.

According to Police spokesperson Joshua Ukandu, “We recovered 10 corpses from the area. At the moment, our personnel are there, and normalcy is returning to the area.” Ukandu added that the police are currently investigating the incident.

Eyewitnesses reported that the attackers, armed with cutlasses and guns, struck in the early hours of Sunday, killing residents and destroying properties.

Mrs. Ifeoma Agwu, Chairperson of Ishielu LGA, stated that authorities are still evacuating bodies and assessing the full extent of the casualties.

Prof. Ndubuisi Idenyi, a resident of the community and former EBSU ASUU Chairman, described the attack as tragic, saying, “My village, Amegu Nkalaha, was attacked today by herdsmen. Many have been killed, and houses have been razed. What a black Sunday!”
