Ekiti State University (EKSU) has achieved a remarkable milestone by emerging as the leading state university in Nigeria, according to a comprehensive ranking list published by Times Higher Education for 2025.
This prestigious recognition is a testament to the university’s commitment to academic excellence and its position as a premier institution of higher learning.
Governor Biodun Oyebanji, an alumnus of EKSU, expressed his heartfelt congratulations to the university’s Chancellor, Dr. Tunji Olowolafe, and commended the Governing Council and management team for their collective efforts in achieving this outstanding feat.
The Governor noted that EKSU’s success is a direct result of the state government’s unwavering commitment to investing in education and human capital development.
Significant investments, including a substantial increase in monthly subventions from N261 million to N410 million, enhanced staff welfare packages, and infrastructure development initiatives, have yielded tangible results and bolstered the state’s reputation as a hub for academic excellence.
As the first alumnus of EKSU to serve as Governor and Visitor to the university, Governor Oyebanji reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to providing unwavering support to the university, focusing on key areas such as teaching, research, and infrastructure upgrades.
He urged the university management to remain focused and driven, striving to maintain its position as the best state university and emerge as the overall top university in Nigeria.
The university’s impressive ranking is also attributed to the leadership of Vice Chancellor Professor Joseph Babatola Ayodele, who has expanded the university’s range of accredited programs and fostered a collaborative relationship with staff unions.
