El-Rufai Visits Obasanjo, A Week After Receiving Chieftaincy Title

December 25, 2023 2 min read

Nasir el-Rufai, former governor of Kaduna State, has visited his ex-principal, Olusegun Obasanjo, in his home in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital.

β€œEarlier today, I visited my boss. Former President Olusegun Obasanjo welcomed me and my friends to his Abeokuta home. We were hosted to a sumptuous lunch by Mrs. Obasanjo for which we are very grateful. Back to base for Christmas in sha Allah,” he wrote on X, on Sunday.

El-Rufai worked as the director-general of Bureau of Public Enterprises (BPE) and later as minister of the federal capital territory (FCT) in the 8-year administration of Obasanjo.

In 2019, Obasanjo described el-Rufai as one of the best persons to work with and that he is a β€œnear-genius and a man that you know where you stand with him. Any job given to him will be well done.”

On his part, el-Rufai, at a world conference in South Africa in September 2023, said the second term of Obasanjo was the most successful in terms of economic growth, job creation, and inflation rate in the history of Nigeria.

β€œIf you look at Nigeria’s economic trajectory, the most successful four to five-year period of economic growth, job creation, and reduced inflation was the period of the second term of President Obasanjo in 2003 to 2007, when for the first time, the country went back into proper integrated planning and we also got lucky,” he said.

His recent visit to the former president’s home in Ogun came less than two weeks after the conferment of a chieftaincy title on him in Ijebuland in the state.

Sikiru Kayode Adetona, the Awujale of Ijebuland, conferred the former governor with the title on December 16.

Meanwhile, the former governor of Kaduna is the first person outside the South-West to be conferred with a chieftaincy title by the monarch.
