Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, has dissolved the State Executive Council (SEC) with immediate effect, marking a significant shake-up in the state’s administration.

The dissolution was announced in a statement issued late Sunday night by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Prof. Habibat Adubiaro. According to the statement, all commissioners, special advisers, and other political appointees affected by the directive are to hand over all official documents, government property, and responsibilities to the permanent secretaries or the most senior civil servants in their respective ministries, departments, and agencies.

While the SSG did not specify the reasons behind the move, sources within the government suggest it may be part of the governor’s plans to restructure his cabinet and inject fresh ideas into the state’s governance machinery. Governor Oyebanji, in his message, commended the outgoing council members for their dedication and service to Ekiti State during their tenure. He acknowledged their roles in driving policies and programmes that contributed to the state’s development over the past months, urging them to continue supporting the government even outside of official positions.

The dissolution of the cabinet is expected to pave the way for the formation of a new State Executive Council that aligns with the governor’s next phase of governance priorities. Political observers in the state believe the move could also be aimed at strengthening the administration’s performance ahead of key political and developmental milestones.
