Discovery of Tin Ore in Plateau Community Allegedly Linked to Terrorist Killings

January 6, 2024 3 min read

Findings by News Week Nigeria revealed that the value of Tin Ore stands at a staggering $25,700 per tonne, raising eyebrows about the lucrative nature of this mineral resource.

Nigerian influencer, VeryDarkMan, shed light on a shocking revelation during his recent visit to Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State besieged by Fulani terrorists.

His discovery of Tin Ore in the area has sparked concerns about its potential connection to the on-going killings.

Findings by News Week Nigeria revealed that the value of Tin Ore stands at a staggering $25,700 per tonne, raising eyebrows about the lucrative nature of this mineral resource.

VeryDarkMan’s expose not only highlights the presence of Tin Ore, but also draws parallels to statements made by Nasarawa State Governor, Abdullahi Sule, in July of the preceding year.

“Dear VeryDarkMan, I never really chook mouth for your matter ever but I wan start today, na New Year be this so e never late. Outside of social media bant personally I want to appreciate you for undertaking on the awareness Media Houses are shying away from. God go bless you.

Governor Sule had voiced concerns about the illegal mining of Lithium by Chinese companies, attributing it to rising insecurity in his state and the broader middle belt region.

During an interview on AriseTV, Governor Sule detailed how these illegal miners allegedly leveraged local groups and received security cover from authorities in Abuja.

This Arise TV interview of Nasarawa governor, Abdullahi Sule and the comments from an industry analyst, it’s believed, may have formed the back stories behind many of the kilings across Nigeria.

Some Chinese firms were alleged to be illegally mining lithium in Nasarawa and this, it’s gathered, is fuelling insecurity in the state.

“It is also causing severe environmental damage, because of zero post-mining remediation plans.

“These issues will be disastrous for the country.

“They go to these communities, meet their traditional rulers and give them peanuts…and these people are happy because they are poor.

“They also say they get their licences & security from Abuja (more on this in the interview with the industry commentator).

“These communities are so poor that when the illegal miners flash N2m, N2m or N10m to them, they are happy. We are saying that this should be a tripartite agreement between the host community, the state & the FG cos when there are issues, they come to us”, Gov Sule had said.

“This exploitation of resources for profit appears to be contributing to the escalation of violence and insecurity in the affected regions.

“Lithium, crucial in battery production, has witnessed a remarkable surge in price, skyrocketing from $7,000 to a staggering $80,000 per metric ton due to its indispensability

“The purported link between the discovery of Tin Ore in Plateau and the on-going violence orchestrated by terrorists underscores the intricate connections between resource exploitation, economic gains, and the security challenges faced in certain Nigerian regions”, he argued.
