Atiku Yet to Reach Out Over Ibadan Explosion — Makinde

January 29, 2024 2 min read

The Oyo State governor, Seyi Makinde, on Monday revealed that the flagbearer of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) during the 2023 presidential election, Atiku Abubakar, is yet to reach out to him over the recent explosion in Ibadan.

Makinde, a member of the PDP, made this disclosure while thanking the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi, who visited him to commiserate with the people of the state.

The Oyo governor said President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had also called him over the incident, but Atiku who is the leader of his party, PDP, had not given him a call or text since the explosion in Ibadan, the state capital.

”I want to thank you especially for the visit. Out of the three major candidates who contested the 2023 election, only Atiku Abubakar, my own leader and our candidate hasn’t called to commiserate with the state,” Makinde said in the video which has gone viral on social media.

“I am saying this openly so that our leaders will know that we have time for politics and others. I want to thank you once again for coming,” Makinde said.

Meanwhile, the Oyo State government last week set up a platform for donations of money to the victims of the fire incident which occured in Bodija area of the Oyo State capital.

Makinde disclosed this in a statement as his administration took steps to support the victims of the fire incident to rebuild their lives.

The governor in an update on the Bodija incident started by thanking all those who took part in the search and rescue operations at Ground Zero, especially the first responders from OYSEMA, medical workers and security agencies.

He said he would also like to reiterate his administration’s commitment to ensuring that the victims got justice.

Makinde said that the Oyo State government was still collating the details of those affected and would announce comprehensive steps they would take to support the victims to rebuild their lives.

“We have also set up a platform for donations to the victims. The money donated goes directly to the Landlords/Residents Association’s bank account.

“Our administration will also work with them to ensure that the money is distributed to the right beneficiaries. Link for donation is https://emergencysupport.oyostate.gov.ng,” Makinde said.
