APC National Secretary Sends Strong Warning to Members on Aregbesola’s New Caucus

August 24, 2023 1 min read

After the establishment of a caucus within Osun State’s All Progressives Congress (APC) by former minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola, the National Secretary of the party, Senator Ajibola Basiru, has issued a caution to party members regarding the development.

In a conversation with The Nation, Ajibola Basiru pointed out that such a group was inconsistent with the APC’s constitution.

He stated: “The APC constitution does not acknowledge a caucus as an official organ or structure of the party. While there is freedom of association under the Nigerian Constitution, individuals are entitled to form associations. However, within the context of the APC, we do not acknowledge the kind of arrangement that the former minister is creating. At most, it appears to be a political club of his preference and lacks foundation within the APC’s structure and organization.”

He also advised that genuine members of the APC exercised caution with regards to the actions of those individuals who might not be identifiable as current members of the party.
