Refrain from sowing seed of discord among Yoruba Monarchs, Alaafin has said

The Office of the Personal Assistant to the Alaafin of Oyo has issued a statement addressing the recent controversy surrounding the interaction between the Alaafin and the Ooni of Ife at a public function

The statement, signed by Oha Abimbola Akeem Owoade 1, described the debate as “needless” and “unhelpful” and called on the public to reject attempts to sow seeds of discord.

The statement emphasized that the Alaafin remains committed to prioritizing the welfare of the Yoruba people, protection of lives and property, empowerment of youth, and revitalization of traditional values for development. “At a time when our people face profound socio-economic and security challenges, it is incumbent on all of us – leaders, youths, traditional institutions, and citizens alike – to rise above pettiness and prioritize the work of uplifting our communities,” the statement read.

The Alaafin expressed his commitment to working with other traditional institutions, including the Ooni of Ife, to chart a new path of unity, justice, and sustainable development across Yorubaland.

“The Alaafin holds the Ooni of Ife – and all custodians of Yoruba heritage – in high regard and is deeply committed to working hand-in-hand with them,” the statement added.

The statement also highlighted the importance of preserving the dignity and gravitas of Yoruba monarchy, saying that the Alaafin will not be drawn into “performative gestures or public spectacles that reduce the gravitas of Yoruba monarchy to fodder for digital sensationalism.”

The Alaafin’s office called on the public to join them in reimagining a Yorubaland where traditions serve as catalysts for progress and where revered thrones stand not in competition, but in purposeful cooperation.

“We call on the public to reject attempts to sow seeds of discord and instead join us in reimagining a Yorubaland where our traditions serve as catalysts for progress,” the statement concluded.
