Abass Elected Speaker Of 10th Assembly

June 13, 2023 1 min read

Tajudeen Abass, the elected representative for Zaria Federal Constituency in Kaduna State, has been chosen by his fellow lawmakers as the Speaker of the House of Representatives.

Abass was elected by his colleagues during an individual voice voting exercise carried out by the Clerk on the floor of the house.

The voting method, an improved version of Option A4 used in the 1993 presidential election, allowed each elected lawmaker to publicly declare their preferred candidate for the speaker position to other members, and such choices were recorded for the candidate.

The Kaduna lawmaker, who was the favoured candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), was elected on Tuesday after the Senate completed its election by selecting Godswill Akpabio, the former governor of Akwa Ibom State.
