Old Students Beg Govt on Deforestation

October 10, 2023 1 min read

Governments at all levels have been told to protect and sustainably manage forests in the country to reduce deforestation.

This was contained in the communique issued at the 108th National Executive Council meeting of the University of Nigeria Alumni Association held in lle-lfe, Osun State, co-signed by the Chairman and Secretary of the Communique Committee, Kunle Jimoh, and Chimaobi Nwabuko respectively.

Noting Nigeria to be an agrarian society due to its weather, the Association called for the development of farm produce as a way of encouraging micro, small and nedium-scale enterprises.

To set Nigeria on the path of sustainable growth, the association also harped on the need for good public management of resources to reduce poverty among the populace and promote well-being for all.

The communique read in part: β€œGovernment should refocus attention on the exploration of other natural resources such as palm-oil, groundnut, cocoa, aluminum, californium, and steel as critical perspectives on national development.”
