The Lagos State University Teaching Hospital has unveiled a newly acquired Intensive Care Unit and operating equipment.

This was made known by the Chief Medical Director of the government-owned hospital, Prof. Adetokunbo Fabamwo, at the commissioning ceremony.

According to Fabamwo, the hospital acquired five new ventilators, four new cardiac monitors, and four theatre spaces equipped with four new anesthetic machines to service the increased number of theatre suites to meet the increasing demand for intensive care in the state.

He said: β€œThere is an increasing load of ICUs requiring patients in Lagos and environs, the demand for ICU beds keeps increasing.

“There’s hardly a day in LASUTH, without a case or two referred for ICU care. This concern is what has made the management of LASUTH, think it pertinent to expand the operating capabilities of the hospital, knowing fully well that the newly commissioned theatre suite complex will attract a rising number of surgical cases.

β€œWe have increased our ICU capacity with the procurement of five brand new ventilators and four brand new cardiac monitors. In addition, four theatre spaces equipped with four brand new anesthetic machines, to service the increased number of theatre suites,” he said.

Also speaking at the event, the Director, Clinical Services and Training, Adebowale Adekoya, commended the effort of the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, in the development of healthcare facilities in the state.

He said: β€œWe all know that the Lagos State Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, places a lot of premium on accessible and affordable health care in Lagos State-owned public hospitals at primary, secondary and tertiary levels. As a matter of fact, health care is one of the pillars of the THEMES agenda of Mr. Governor, and that is the reason we are here today for this commissioning.”
