Foundation Empowers Youth

September 1, 2023 2 min read

As part of its commitment to the development of children and youths in Ekiti State, Tokunbo Ajila-Jakande Children Foundation says it has empowered youths and children through recycling innovation.

In a statement, the foundation noted that over the years, the clamour for protecting the earth and making it safer for humans, animals, and plants had been popularised through climate change conversations and actions facilitated by the United Nations and other organisations.

The statement noted that it was, therefore, important for organisations and governments to develop innovative solutions to protect the planet.

It stated: β€œThis year’s International Youth Day with the theme β€˜Skills for youth: Towards a sustainable world’, was celebrated on 12th August. As part of its commitment to the development of children and youths in Ekiti State, Tokunbo Ajila-Jakande Children Foundation commemorated the celebration from 24-25 August 2023 with donations of plastic collectors to different locations in the state, and an empowerment session afterward with youths in the state.”

The founder of the Foundation, Tokunbo Ajila-Jakande, empowered the children and youths with the knowledge of recycling through partnership with the Creative Director and Founder of Planet 3R, Adejoke Lasisi, a social enterprise dedicated to converting nylon and textile wastes into eco-friendly products.

It added: β€œIt should be recalled that since 2016, the organisation has carried out several interventions ranging from the donation of welfare relief packages to the old and vulnerable in the state, scholarships to children and youths, as well as a yearly celebration of the National Children’s Day in style, impacting the lives of hundreds of Ekiti indigenes.”
