Tobi Amusan Finally Cleared of Doping Violation

August 18, 2023 2 min read

Provisional suspension has been lifted on Nigeria’s world record holder, Tobi Amusan, as she has finally been cleared of doping allegations.

There appears to be hope to return on track for Nigeria’s track and field queen, Tobi Amusan, after she was cleared for Anti-Doping Rule Violation (ADRV).

The 100m Hurdle World Record Holder was provisionally suspended by the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) in July for missing three tests within a calendar year.

Although Tobi Amusan maintained her innocence, insisting that she was a clean athlete, she had to wait on the verdict of a tribunal that was set up to look into the matter.

The 26-year-old can now finally heave a sigh of relief after the tribunal cleared her of all anti-doping violations.

In a press release by the AIU, it was stated that it took a majority decision by the Disciplinary Tribunal to clear Tobi Amusan of any wrongdoing.

β€œA panel of the Disciplinary Tribunal, by majority decision, has today found that Tobi Amusan has not committed an Anti-Doping Rule Violation (ADRV) of three Whereabouts Failures within a 12-month period.”

However, the AIU maintained that the body was not happy with the decision of the Disciplinary Tribunal and might appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).

β€œAIU Head Brett Clothier has indicated the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) is disappointed by this decision and will review the reasoning in detail before deciding whether to exercise its right of appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) within the applicable deadline.”
