Take Possession of Your Allocation or Risk Forfeiture, Govt Warns Allottees

Allottees of the Ogun State Government housing estates, particularly those in Phase 1 and 2 of the Prince Court Estate, Kobape, Abeokuta, who failed to take possession of their houses will be displaced, while the initial houses will be reallocated to those who are on waiting list of the phase 3.

Special Adviser to the state governor on Housing, Jagunmolu Akande Omoniyi dropped the warning while fielding questions from journalists after an inspection tour of the Prince Court Estate 1 and 2 located at Siun Road, Kobape, Abeokuta, stating that the present administration would not fold its arms and allow those houses to become dilapidated and rot away.

Omoniyi pointed out that the Ministry of Housing had given out several notices since March 2023 that compelled the allottees to take full possession of their houses, noting that 90 percent of them complied in phase 1, while 52 percent also yielded in phase 2.

He said: “it is worrisome that some allotted houses have remained overgrown with bushes, while some of these allottees have not even bothered to check on their houses for the past one year, government will not condone this nonchalant attitude of those who failed to occupy the houses”.

The governor’s aide noted that necessary amenities were provided at the estate that made it conducive for the occupants to live, adding that the giant strides of Prince Dapo Abiodun-led administration in the provision of affordable housing in the state would not be allowed to be defeated.

Also speaking, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Housing, Engr. Sakirudeen Salaam urged the allotees to adhere strictly to the approved lay-out of the estate before embarking on expansion of their houses to avoid sanctions.

Responding, chairman of the Resident’s Association of Prince Court Estate, Mr. Felix Fashina, appreciated the present administration for its efforts in provision of decent housing accommodation for the citizenry, assuring that necessary avenue would be deployed at ensuring that the allottees of the estate did everything in tune with the ministry’s directive.
