The Ogun State House of Assembly has passed a resolution recognising August 20 of every year as Isese Cultural Day in the state.

The day will also be declared a work-free day by the state government.

Mr Adegoke Adeyanju, a member of the All Progressive Congress (APC) representing Yewa North Constituency I, who sponsored the motion, said the day was meant to promote people’s tradition and culture in the state.

Yusuf Sheriff, a member of the All Progressive Congress (APC), representing Ado-Odo Ota Constituency I, moved the motion at the plenary for the House to adopt the passage of the resolution.

It was later seconded by Mr Lukmon Adeleye, a member of the People’s Democratic Party representing Odogbolu Constituency.

Other members of the House who were in support of the resolution were of the opinion that the Isese Cultural Day celebration would promote the cultural heritage of Yorubaland.

Mr. Olakunle Oluomo, the Speaker of the House and member of the All Progressive Congress (APC) representing Ifo Constituency I noted that the cultural day would enable parents to transmit the culture and tradition of the Kingdom to the younger generations.

According to him, Isese was a Yoruba name that told us what we inherited from our parents and it’s also a way to continually promote culture and tradition so that they did not go into extinction.
