Yoruba activist Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, reportedly intervened after armed policemen allegedly stormed the Ibadan residence of Tani Olohun, a popular Isese/traditional religion activist.
According to Irohin O’odua, the policemen allegedly broke down the door of the residence while attempting to take Tani Olohun away. His wife and neighbours reportedly confronted the officers, while the activist and his wife were allegedly assaulted during the incident.
The report said calls were made to Igboho, who subsequently mobilised his men to the scene. He was also said to have contacted the Kwara State Police Command, warning against the alleged attempt to transfer Tani Olohun to Ilorin.
The report further alleged that the officers were acting on instructions linked to the Ilorin Emirate, an allegation that has not been independently verified.
The Alliance for Yoruba Democratic Movement (AYDM) condemned the reported incident, describing it as an attack on freedom of worship and calling on the Kwara State Government and the Inspector-General of Police to intervene.
Tani Olohun has previously faced legal action in Kwara State over allegations including defamation and insulting the Emir of Ilorin and Islamic clerics.
The latest allegations against the police have not been independently confirmed by the Nigeria Police Force.
