The Lagos State Government, in collaboration with the All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN), Amuwo-Odofin Chapter, has distributed fertilizer to farmers in the local government under the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Farm Input Support Programme (RH-FISP).
The distribution, which took place on Tuesday at the Amuwo-Odofin Local Government Secretariat, was led by the Executive Chairman, Prince Lanre Sanusi, marking one of the key agricultural interventions of his administration. The programme aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda on food security and is being implemented through the National Agricultural Development Fund (NADF).
The AFAN representatives present at the event included Pastor Oluwashina Akinde, Chairman of AFAN Amuwo-Odofin Chapter, and Mrs Abimbola Francis, Lagos State Secretary of AFAN and pioneer of the Amuwo-Odofin chapter.
In Lagos State, 20,160 bags of fertilizer were allocated, with 12,090 bags distributed to 3,040 members of AFAN. The remaining 8,070 bags were designated for other farming clusters across the state.
Speaking at the event, Prince Sanusi said the programme would boost agricultural productivity and support food security in Amuwo-Odofin, a densely populated urban local government where farming activities remain significant. Farmers present expressed gratitude for the timely intervention, noting that the high cost of fertilizer had been a major challenge.
The distribution was supervised by key officials of the local government, including the Special Assistant on Agriculture, Hon. Adelaja Dosunmu; the Supervisor for Agriculture, Hon. Olanrewaju Olabode; and the Head of Agriculture Department, Hon. Adeeko. The state government has assured that the distribution is transparent, with farmers verified by AFAN to ensure inputs reach genuine beneficiaries.
