1991 PUBLICATION ON ISLAMIC STATE VISION RAISES QUESTIONS ON NATIONAL UNITY

Ibrahim El Zakzaky’s publication, Our Mission: Islamic Republic of Nigeria, released in 1991, presents a political and ideological vision advocating the establishment of an Islamic state, a position widely viewed as incompatible with Nigeria’s secular and multi religious constitutional framework.

The document reflects internal differences among individuals associated with the movement. Malam Mukhtar, son of Nigeria’s first Prime Minister, dismissed the idea as unrealistic in the immediate context, urging a focus on moral development such as patience, integrity, love, and piety.
