Prince of Oyo, Descendant of Sango, Represents Yoruba Heritage at UNESCO Event in Brazil
The prince of Oyo, descendant of Sango, the Yoruba deity of thunder and lightning, is currently representing Yoruba heritage at a UNESCO event in Salvador da Bahia, Brazil.
The event, titled “OYO: The City of Yoruba Cultural Heritage,” is part of efforts to have Oyo recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The prince’s presence underscores the deep spiritual and cultural connection between Yorubaland and the African diaspora in Brazil.
The delegation is being led by His Imperial Majesty, Oba Abimbola Akeem Owoade I, the Alaafin of Oyo. The event is expected to further strengthen the cultural ties between Yoruba land and Brazil, where millions of Afro-Brazilians trace their ancestry to the Yoruba people.
