FALSE: No Fulani Herdsmen Arrested in Ikorodu with Weapons – 2022 Incident Resurfaces as Fake News

May 30, 2026 1 min read

A viral report claiming that Fulani herdsmen were arrested in Ikorodu, Lagos State, with two vehicles loaded with bullets, guns, and explosive devices is completely false.

The incident in question occurred on September 24, 2022, when the OPC Dependable Security Team uncovered a cache of weapons at a scrap yard in Powerline Unity Estate, Poromope, Idiroko, along the Itamaga-Ijede Road, Ikorodu. The individuals caught in connection with the discovery were non-Yorubas.

The resurfaced story is misleading and designed to incite ethnic tension. Members of the public are advised to disregard the report and verify information before sharing. Security agencies have confirmed that no recent arrest of Fulani herdsmen has taken place in Ikorodu in connection with any weapons seizure.
