“Breach to Yoruba Monarchy Tradition, Unacceptable” — Iwo Ruling Houses Drag Oluwo to Court Over Alleged Exhumation of Past Kings’ Remains
Three ruling houses in Iwo, Osun State, have filed a suit at the State High Court seeking the deposition of the Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrosheed Akanbi, over allegations linked to the reported exhumation of the remains of past monarchs from the sacred palace burial grounds.
The Ogunmakinde Ande, Adegunodo, and Alausa ruling houses described the alleged action as a serious breach of Yoruba monarchical tradition, insisting it is unacceptable and contrary to the sanctity attached to the throne and the resting places of past kings.
They are asking the court to declare the monarch unfit to occupy the stool, nullify his installation, and order a fresh selection process in line with customary law.
The claimants argue that the dignity of past rulers remains central to the continuity of the Iwo traditional institution, warning that any interference undermines established cultural order.
They are also seeking an order restraining him from further parading himself as Oluwo pending determination of the case.
