The Oodua Youth Coalition (OYC) on Friday held its annual public lecture and awards ceremony at The Dome in Akure, Ondo State, bringing together youth leaders, government officials, cultural advocates, and community stakeholders from across the Southwest.

The event, convened by Ogbeni Tayo Oluyi, centred on youth empowerment, governance, security, and the preservation of Yoruba heritage. In his welcome address, Oluyi stressed the need for sustained youth involvement in shaping the future of the region.

Elder statesman Baba Sehinde Arogbofa, who delivered one of the keynote lectures, spoke on the importance of instilling Yoruba values and traditions from the home. He emphasized that cultural education must begin early, adding that the family remains the strongest foundation for transmitting language, morals, and identity to the next generation.

Other speakers highlighted issues affecting the region, including the need for strategic economic empowerment, political inclusion, and a renewed commitment to community development.

The ceremony also featured the presentation of awards to individuals and organisations recognized for leadership, community service, entrepreneurship, cultural promotion, and other contributions to the advancement of Yorubaland.

Participants described the gathering as a unifying platform that strengthens youth engagement and promotes the collective development of the Southwest.
