ARMY CHIEF REVEALS OWN INJURY HISTORY, VOWS STRONGER SUPPORT FOR WOUNDED TROOPS IN MAIDUGURI

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt.-Gen. Waidi Shuaibu, on Thursday, paid an emotional visit to soldiers wounded in battle, assuring them of full medical care and sustained welfare support.

During his visit to the Maimalari Cantonment Medical Centre in Maiduguri, Borno State, Shuaibu shared a personal story of resilience, recalling how he once sustained gunshot wounds while fighting Boko Haram insurgents in the North East.

“I was once like you. I was brought to this same hospital when I was wounded in battle. I understand what you are going through,” he said.

The Army chief pledged that no wounded soldier would be neglected under his watch, adding that the Nigerian Army would intensify efforts to improve evacuation, medical response, and compensation systems for troops injured in combat.

“I want to assure you of our total support to enable you recuperate fully. Your sacrifices will not be in vain,” he stated.

Shuaibu’s visit comes amid renewed security concerns in parts of Borno following reports of heightened insurgent activity. He said the ongoing review of military operations would focus on troop welfare and safety while sustaining the momentum against terrorist elements.

Some of the wounded soldiers expressed gratitude for the COAS’s visit, describing it as a morale booster and a reminder that their service to the nation is valued.
