The Dangote Petroleum Refinery has announced that its current fuel output now exceeds Nigeria’s daily consumption needs, marking a major turnaround in the nation’s energy supply narrative.
In a statement issued on Saturday, Anthony Chiejina, the Group Chief Branding and Communications Officer of Dangote Industries Limited, said the refinery now loads over 45 million litres of petrol and 25 million litres of diesel daily — a volume he described as surpassing national demand.
Chiejina reaffirmed the company’s commitment to ensuring a steady and uninterrupted supply of premium motor spirit (PMS) and automotive gas oil (diesel) across the country.
“Our refinery is currently loading over 45 million litres of PMS and 25 million litres of diesel daily which exceeds Nigeria’s demand,” he said.
He added that Dangote is working closely with regulatory bodies and distribution partners to guarantee efficient nationwide delivery, noting that the refinery’s massive output represents a strategic shift toward energy independence.
“Dangote remains steadfast in its commitment to meeting the energy needs of Nigerians. This significant production capacity not only guarantees local supply but also enhances energy security and reduces dependence on imports,” he stated.
The development comes months after the refinery began full-scale production, amid high expectations that it would end decades of fuel scarcity and import dependency.
Industry observers say the claim — if sustained — could signal a new era in Nigeria’s downstream petroleum sector, potentially easing pump prices and stabilising supply chains long plagued by inefficiency and corruption.
