FG REAFFIRMS COMMITMENT TO RELIGIOUS FREEDOM, RESPONDS TO US STATEMENT

The Federal Government has reaffirmed its commitment to religious freedom and the protection of all citizens irrespective of faith, in response to a recent statement by the United States on religious freedom in Nigeria.

In a statement issued on Saturday, November 1, 2025, by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Spokesperson, Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, the government said it remains resolute in tackling violent extremism driven by special interests fueling instability across West Africa and the Sahel region.

“We mourn all the victims of violent extremism and salute our armed forces as they continue to fight against vicious but cowardly foes,” the statement read. “The Federal Government of Nigeria will continue to defend all citizens, irrespective of race, creed, or religion.”

The government described Nigeria as a God-fearing country that upholds faith, tolerance, diversity, and inclusion in line with international norms.

“Like America, Nigeria has no option but to celebrate the diversity that is our greatest strength,” the ministry added.

Reaffirming Nigeria’s long-standing bilateral relationship with the United States, the statement emphasized that the government of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu would maintain a “laser focus and steadfast commitment” to partnerships that promote peace, stability, freedom, and democracy.
