The Chairman of Odogbolu Local Government, Hon. (Dr.) Babatunde Diya, has reaffirmed his commitment to promoting Yoruba heritage and excellence as he hosted a delegation from the Ikoto Community and announced the renaming of Old Benin Road after world athletics champion, Ọmọ Yorùbá Atata, Tobi Amusan.
Speaking during the visit, Hon. Diya described Amusan as “a shining symbol of Yoruba resilience, discipline, and global excellence.” He noted that her story embodies the age-long Yoruba values of hard work, courage, and honour, which continue to make the nation proud across the world.
He stressed that the decision to rename Old Benin Road after Amusan was not just to celebrate her success, but to immortalize her as a beacon of hope and inspiration for the younger generation of Yoruba sons and daughters.
The visit also provided a platform to discuss the developmental needs of Ikoto, with community leaders commending the Chairman for his cultural consciousness and responsiveness to the yearnings of the people.
The renaming, according to the council boss, is a reminder that Odogbolu and the entire Yoruba land must continue to celebrate their heroes and preserve their cultural legacy for future generations.
