2023 Hajj: 5 Nigerian Pilgrims Die, 30 Diagnosed with Mental Illness

Five Nigerian Pilgrims performing the on-going Hajj in Saudi Arabia, died in the holy land, while not less than 30 have been diagnosed with mental illness of various degrees.

Head of the Medical Team of the National Hajj, NAHCON, Usman Galadima,while making this known on Saturday, said those with mental illness were being managed, adding “there are hopes they will be stable enough to perform the Hajj.”

Two of the dead pilgrims were from Osun and Kaduna and Plateau have one each.

“We have been managing them in our facilities. We have about four psychiatrists in the team. We have been managing them and all of them would likely perform hajj because they are a bit stable now.”

It was also learnt that there were two pregnancy miscarriages while one safe delivery was recorded.

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has announced that no fewer than 1.2 million pilgrims have arrived in the holy land of Makkah for the 2023 Hajj exercise.
