The Southern Kaduna Peoples Union (SOKAPU) has issued a strong rebuttal to former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai’s recent remarks, describing them as divisive and an attempt to distort the realities of his eight-year administration.

In the statement released on Tuesday, the union accused El-Rufai of deliberately downplaying the sufferings of Southern Kaduna communities under his leadership, particularly the incessant killings, displacement of villagers, and destruction of farmlands.

SOKAPU emphasized that contrary to the former governor’s claims, Southern Kaduna people were victims of systematic neglect, injustice, and targeted attacks that worsened during his tenure. The group insisted that peace cannot be achieved in the state without acknowledging truth, justice, and equity.

The statement also called on Nigerians not to be misled by what it termed El-Rufai’s “revisionist narrative,” urging the federal government and international community to pay closer attention to the plight of Southern Kaduna.

According to the group, Kaduna State deserves leadership that unites rather than divides, one that addresses the humanitarian crisis facing internally displaced persons and ensures accountability for past atrocities.
