Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has renewed his call for direct talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin, stressing that meaningful dialogue is the only path to ending the ongoing war between both countries.
Speaking amid stalled international peace efforts, Zelensky emphasized that while Ukraine remains committed to defending its sovereignty, the human and economic costs of the conflict demand urgent solutions. He noted that discussions with Putin would provide an opportunity to address core issues fueling the war, including territorial disputes, security guarantees, and humanitarian concerns.
So far, several rounds of negotiations mediated by international bodies and neutral countries have failed to yield lasting results, with both sides accusing each other of intransigence. The Ukrainian leader’s appeal comes at a time when global powers are intensifying pressure for a ceasefire to prevent further escalation and regional instability.
Zelensky insisted that Ukraine is not opposed to diplomacy but warned that any peace framework must ensure justice and protection for his people. “We cannot accept a frozen conflict,” he said, underscoring the need for genuine commitments rather than temporary measures.
The Kremlin has yet to formally respond to Zelensky’s renewed call for talks, but Russian officials have previously set conditions that Kyiv has rejected.
