Tinubu Appoints MKO Abiola’s Daughter as Director-General of Citizenship and Leadership Training Centre

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of Mrs. Omolola Abiola-Edewor, daughter of the late Chief MKO Abiola, as the new Director-General of the Citizenship and Leadership Training Centre (CLTC).

The announcement, made by the Presidency on Monday, is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen leadership development and civic education in Nigeria. The CLTC, an agency under the Federal Ministry of Youth Development, is mandated to provide leadership, citizenship, and paramilitary-style training for Nigerians, with a focus on fostering national unity, discipline, and community service.

Mrs. Abiola-Edewor, a seasoned administrator and public servant, is the daughter of Chief MKO Abiola, the acclaimed winner of the annulled June 12, 1993 presidential election and a symbol of Nigeria’s pro-democracy struggle. She previously served diligently as the Senior Special Assistant (SSA) on Citizenship and Leadership, where she demonstrated unwavering focus, competence, and dedication to the ideals of national development, civic responsibility, and youth empowerment. Her performance in that role was marked by a deep commitment to building responsible citizenship and leadership among Nigerian youth.

Her appointment is seen as a strategic move to reposition the CLTC for greater impact in leadership training, especially among Nigerian youths. According to the Presidency, she is expected to “bring integrity, vision, and a renewed sense of purpose to the Centre’s operations.”

The appointment has drawn commendations from pro-democracy groups and political observers, who view it as a recognition of the Abiola family’s enduring contribution to Nigeria’s democratic journey.
