Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has unveiled plans to elevate Olumo Rock into the country’s top tourism destination.
This move is part of the administration’s deliberate policy shift towards tourism, aiming to tap into the sector’s vast economic potential.
While inspecting the Olumo Rock Tourist Center on Wednesday, Governor Abiodun emphasized the site’s cultural significance, representing the rich history and traditions of Egbaland and Ogun State as a whole.
Notably, the center attracted over 20,000 visitors in 2024.
“We’re now focusing on tourism, and we’ll be very intentional about developing our tourist infrastructure,” Governor Abiodun stated.
“Tourism offers immense potential, not just as a revenue source, but as a driver of economic growth.”
He cited examples of nations that have successfully transitioned from oil-dependent economies to tourism-driven ones, where tourism now accounts for 70% of their revenue.
Governor Abiodun is determined to replicate this model in Ogun State, ensuring Olumo Rock receives the showcase it deserves through a carefully developed plan.
