The Rivers State House of Assembly has officially backed President Bola Tinubu’s declaration of a state of emergency in the state.

In a statement released on Tuesday, Speaker Martin Amaewhule confirmed the Assembly’s support for the president’s decision, despite initial reservations.

Amaewhule assured constituents that the Assembly would abide by the declaration, acknowledging that it wasn’t their preferred outcome.

However, he emphasized that President Tinubu acted in the best interest of the country.

The Speaker attributed the crisis in Rivers State to Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s alleged malfeasance, citing his disregard for court judgments and failure to govern constitutionally.

Amaewhule stated that the governor’s actions obstructed the Rivers State House of Assembly, exacerbating the state’s problems.

In light of the emergency rule, Amaewhule urged residents to remain calm and cooperate with the Sole Administrator appointed by the president.

This administrator will oversee the state’s affairs, ensuring stability and continuity during this period.
