The House of Representatives has directed the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) to enforce an immediate shutdown of all pornographic websites across the country.

This move is aimed at regulating online content and protecting societal values, especially among the youth.

According to reports, the lawmakers have mandated internet service providers to block access to such websites, marking a significant step towards controlling explicit content online.

The decision was announced on Tuesday, with the NCC expected to take immediate action.

Katsina Rep. Dalhatu Tafoki sponsored the motion, emphasizing the need to “protect societal values”.

This development reflects growing concerns over the impact of explicit content on Nigerian society, particularly among young people.

The directive is seen as a bold move by the House of Representatives to address the issue of online explicit content.

While some may argue that this decision raises concerns about censorship and freedom of expression, others see it as a necessary step to protect vulnerable members of society.

As the NCC works to enforce the shutdown, it remains to be seen how effective this measure will be in controlling online explicit content. Nonetheless.
