The Ekiti State Government has taken steps to ensure that road construction and rehabilitation projects meet high quality standards.
The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Works and Transport, Mr Sunday Komolafe, issued a warning to contractors about the importance of delivering quality work.
He emphasized that the current administration in Ekiti State was committed to upholding quality standards and would not tolerate the use of substandard materials by contractors.
Mr Komolafe’s gave the warning during his inspection of the Ilawe-Erijiyan road rehabilitation project.
This, according to him, indicated that the government was actively monitoring on-going projects to ensure that contractors adhere to the specified standards and use quality materials.
By issuing this warning, he said, the Ekiti State Government aimed to create accountability and raise the overall quality of road construction and rehabilitation projects in the state.
The permanent secretary said it served as a reminder to contractors that they would be held responsible for delivering projects that do not meet the required standards.
“The present government led by Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji has zero
tolerance for shoddy jobs and will not compromise the standard as
government is targeting durable projects that will stand the test of
time”, Komolafe said.
The permanent secretary, emphasized that the road project should provide significant benefits to the people, proportional to the amount of money being spent on it.
He stressed the importance of ensuring that the project delivered a high quality outcome that meets the needs of the community.
During his conversation with the representative of the contractor, the permanent secretary expressed confidence in the contractor’s ability to deliver a quality job.
Komolafe requested that the contractor revisit and address any corrected portions of the road to ensure that it met the required standards.
He assured the people of of the state that the project would be completed on time.
Komolafe said that the project was awarded by the current administration in February, adding that since then, efforts had been made to work tirelessly to meet the project specifications.
The contractor, in response, stated that the rehabilitation of the road is at 67 percent completion.
He assured that they would soon return to the site to complete the remaining work necessary to finish the project.
