The Ogun State government has launched an investigation into a disturbing viral video showing the Oloorile of Orile Ifo, Oba Semiu Ogunjobi, allegedly subjecting Chief Arinola Abraham Love to dehumanizing treatment.
The two-minute clip shows Chief Arinola kneeling on the road while being cursed and slapped by the monarch and his aides.
Oba Ogunjobi, a retired police officer, boasted about his influence over the Nigeria Police, threatening to jail Chief Arinola without consequences.
He even went as far as saying that if Chief Arinola died, he would bury him without any repercussions.
The monarch’s actions have been widely condemned, with the Special Adviser to Governor Dapo Abiodun on Communication and Strategy, Kayode Akinmade, describing the treatment as “horrible and inappropriate”
Akinmade assured that the government would investigate the matter and take necessary action if the allegations were confirmed.
Emmanuel Ojo, the governor’s Special Assistant on New Media, also denounced the incident, stating that the situation could have been handled in a more civilized manner.
Ojo emphasized that resorting to force, assault, and public humiliation is unacceptable and must be strongly denounced.
The investigation is ongoing, and Nigerians are calling for strict action against the monarch if found guilty of abuse of power.
