Think Yoruba First (TYF), a US-based Yoruba socio-political group, has congratulated Prince Abimbola Owoade on his emergence as the new Alaafin of Oyo.

This was contained in a statement issued by the group general Secretary, Dr. Bukola Adeniji, signed by the group President, Oladimeji Bolarinwa, made available to The Yoruba Times on Monday, January 13, 2025.

The organization described Owoade’s selection as a significant event that marks a new chapter for the Yoruba people.

“His emergence signifies a new chapter for the Yoruba people, one rooted in the rich traditions of our ancestors and the enduring legacy of the Alaafin throne,” Bolarinwa said.

Part of the statement read, “As you prepare to ascend to this revered position, we implore you to imbibe the indomitable spirit of Oranmiyan—the legendary progenitor of the Oyo Empire, whose courage, wisdom, and visionary leadership is said to have laid the foundation for the greatness of the Yoruba race.”

The group in the statement emphasized the importance of upholding the values of the Yoruba people, citing the spirits of Oranmiyan, Sango, Kori, Abipa, Obalokun, Ajagbo, and Atiba as examples of valour and relentless pursuit of progress.

“We charge Your Imperial Majesty to always prioritise the collective welfare of the Yoruba people in every action and decision,” the group added.

The group expressed their hopes for Owoade’s reign, stating, “Let the unity and cultural heritage of Yoruba land guide your reign, and let your leadership shine as a beacon of hope for generations to come. Now, more than ever, we need a leader who will inspire the Yoruba people to embrace our shared identity, confront challenges with resilience, and build bridges of progress across diverse communities.”

The group oncluded by offering his congratulations to Owoade, saying, “As you ascend this throne of your ancestors, may you be blessed with wisdom, strength, and grace to fulfil the sacred duties of your position. Congratulations once again, and may your reign be long and prosperous.”
