Another remarkable story of determination and resilience has emerged from Russia, where a Yoruba-born doctor, Samuel Olalekan Akinyemi, played a pivotal role in the development of a groundbreaking cancer vaccine.

Dr. Akinyemi’s journey from his humble beginnings in Lagos to becoming a leading oncologist is a testament to his unwavering dedication to education and his passion for saving lives.

Born in 1994, Dr. Akinyemi grew up in Lagos, where he attended the United Methodist/Anglican Grammar School for his secondary education. After completing his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Nigeria in 2012, he initially pursued undergraduate studies in civil engineering, inspired by his father’s profession.

However, his true calling lay in medicine, and he soon made the bold decision to pursue a career in this field.

Dr. Akinyemi’s parents were extremely supportive of his decision, and they agreed to fund his education.

He moved to Russia in 2015 to study medicine at the prestigious Bashkir State Medical University in Ufa. Before commencing his medical studies, Dr. Akinyemi spent six months studying the Russian language in Volgograd.

Throughout his educational journey, Dr. Akinyemi demonstrated exceptional academic prowess and a keen interest in urology and oncology.

These specialties would later become the focal points of his research and professional career.

His commitment to these fields is evident through his numerous publications and contributions to the medical field.

After completing his medical studies, Dr. Akinyemi pursued his residency and is currently working as an oncology intern at the BSMU Clinic.

In addition to his medical duties, he teaches English at the university and high school.

Dr. Akinyemi is also multilingual, speaking German, Russian, Yoruba, and English fluently.

Dr. Akinyemi’s work includes extensive research into cancer treatments and vaccines. His recent involvement in the discovery of a groundbreaking cancer vaccine in Russia marks a milestone in his career and in the global fight against cancer.
