Herders suspected to be ‘Fulanis’ kill one, raze houses in Gombe village

An attack occurred in Powish Village, Kalmai District of Billiri Local Government area of Gombe State, leaving one person dead, houses burnt, and several livestock carted away.

According to Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) Buhari Abdullahi, the incident happened at around 1 am on Thursday when hoodlums, suspected to be Fulani herders, stormed the village armed with machetes and other dangerous weapons.

The attackers killed one Yusuf Akwara and set houses ablaze during the operation.

A combined team of police officers and the 301 artillery regiment was deployed to the scene to contain the situation, but the assailants had fled before their arrival.

The Gombe State Police Command has condemned the attack and vowed to bring the perpetrators to justice. Commissioner of Police CP Hayatu Usman made the condemnation during an on-the-spot assessment visit to the scene, urging members of the public to be patient and cooperate with the police in investigating the attack.

CP Usman stated, “A team of detectives from the State Criminal Investigation Department and men from the 34PMF, 59PMF, and conventional police officers have been deployed to track the perpetrators.”
