Dare Akogun, Senior News Editor and Environment Journalist at Sobi FM, has been nominated for the prestigious Diamond Awards for Media Excellence (DAME) in the Child-Friendly Reporting category.

According to a letter from the DAME Programme Officer, Tomi Adebola, Akogun’s entry was shortlisted as one of the three finalists in the category.

The letter stated that Akogun’s achievement is a feat, and he is expected to attend the award presentation where the first, second, and third place prizes will be awarded.

The nominated story, “How Climate Change Is Denying Children in Kwara Community Access to Education,” was produced with support from Brain Builders Development Youth Initiative and Sobi 101.9 FM Ilorin, Kwara State.

The DAME Awards, established in 1991, aim to highlight groundbreaking works of reporters and producers who bring to light stories on human development, peace, governance, gender equality, and human rights, among other issues.

The 33rd DAME Awards ceremony will take place on November 30, 2024, at the Ijakadi Hall, Radisson Blu Hotel, Ikeja, Lagos.

This year’s event attracted 634 entries and will honor outstanding contributions to journalism in various categories across radio, TV, print, and online.
