Prof. Sani Abubakar Lugga, esteemed Wazirin Katsina, has sounded a clarion call for the northern region to unite and prepare for self-determination amid growing secessionist sentiments in southern Nigeria.
Addressing a community engagement event organized by the Coalition of Northern Groups (CNG) in Katsina, Lugga emphasized the imperative for northerners to brace themselves for potential separation.
He cited the persistent calls for secession from southern groups and the need for the North to learn from their proactive measures.
Lugga lamented the lack of unity among northerners in defending their rights, contrasting it with the determination of groups like the Biafrans.
He praised southern states’ initiatives in addressing security challenges, such as forming regional security forces like Amotekun, while the North remains passive.
The scholar referenced historical concerns about the amalgamation of North and South, describing the union as fragile.
Lugga warned that without preparation, the North could struggle to survive if the South succeeds in breaking away.
CNG National Coordinator Jamilu Charanchi echoed Lugga’s sentiments, stressing community-led actions to address Nigeria’s socioeconomic and security challenges. Charanchi criticized the country’s leadership for prioritizing elections over the nation’s future, urging communities to take charge of their destinies.
Lugga’s call to action underscores the pressing need for northern Nigeria to reassess its position within the nation and prepare for an uncertain future.
