June 12, 2023 2 min read

On Sunday, the determined chef, Miss Damilola Adeparusi, from Ekiti, continued her ambitious pursuit to break the Guinness World Record for the longest cooking marathon. Currently a student at Federal University, Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE), she achieved a remarkable feat of cooking for 60 consecutive hours in her Cook-a-thon kitchen, located in an apartment in Ilupeju community, Oye Local Government Area of Ekiti State.

Commencing her 120-hour cooking marathon at midnight on Friday, Adeparusi faced numerous challenges. The kitchen space was extremely small, lacking proper ventilation, and there were no arrangements made for medical personnel in case of emergencies. Additionally, security agencies were absent, except for a few private security officers. In addition to her culinary skills, Adeparusi is also a poet, songwriter, and editor, as reflected on her official social media pages. Her passion for researching and learning about new things is evident, driving her curiosity.

Representing Spirit Word Global Mission church in the cook-a-thon, Adeparusi aims to surpass Hilda Baci’s previous record of 100 hours with her goal of 120 hours. Despite the demanding task, she has managed to prepare a variety of delicious meals, including rice and beans, beans porridge, Semovita with vegetables, porridge, and spaghetti.

Rotimi Ojomoyela, the Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Ekiti State Council, sent words of encouragement to Adeparusi, urging the people of Ekiti to support her and bring pride to the state. Surprisingly, the state government officials and the management staff of FUOYE have not yet visited her to provide moral and psychological support.Adeparusi’s determination and resilience in her quest for the Guinness World Record are truly inspiring, as she faces various obstacles and pushes the boundaries of her capabilities.
