The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has raided an illegal alcohol factory in Lagos, arresting three individuals and seizing goods worth N200 million.

In a courageous move to protect public health in the country, the agency disclosed to this in a press statement on Friday.

NAFDAC said its โ€œenforcement officers, acting on intelligence reports, have uncovered an illegal facility producing various alcoholic beverages in the Lagos Island area of Lagos State.โ€

โ€œAfter thorough surveillance, the officers discovered that several packing stores and rooms in Oke-Arin market had been converted into makeshift factories where different brands of alcoholic drinks were being produced, packaged, and distributed in the open market,โ€ it stated.

NAFDAC also revealed that โ€œover 2,000 cartons of empty bottles and already packaged drinks were seized, along with a mini plastic mixing tank, an improvised filter, and various packaging materials. Three suspects were arrested in connection with the illegal operation.โ€

โ€œNAFDAC has estimated the street value of the seized items at N200 millionโ€ and urged the public to be vigilant, especially when purchasing alcoholic beverages.

โ€œInvestigation is ongoing, and the suspects will face prosecution upon its conclusionโ€ NAFDAC stated.

NAFDAC’s decisive action sends a strong message to illegal manufacturers and counterfeiters.

The agency’s also stated that their dedication to safeguarding public health is unwavering.
