Bobrisky Sentenced to 6 Months in Prison for Naira Abuse

April 12, 2024 2 min read

Nigerian cross-dresser Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky has been sentenced to six months in prison.

Contrary to expectations, the judge gave him no option of fine, hence he has to spend next six months behind bars.

This is just as former Central Bank of Nigeria Governor, Godwin Emefieles got a N50 million bail from another high court in Lagos same day.

Delivering the judgement on Friday, Justice Abimbola Awogboro of the Federal High Court in Lagos, gave the convict with no option of fine

It would be recalled that the controversial cross dresser had last week pleaded guilty to the charge of naira abuse.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), on Thursday, April 4, filed a six-count charge of money laundering and abuse of naira against him.

On Friday, April 5, EFCC arraigned Bobrisky in court on a six-count charge ranging from abuse of naira and money laundering.

The court, however, dismissed the money laundering charges, but convicted him for naira abuse after he confessed to the crime.

In another development, Justice Rahman Oshodi of an Ikeja Special Offences Court also on Friday granted former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) governor, Godwin Emefiele, N50 million bail

Emefiele is facing a 26-count charge bordering on alleged abuse of office and fraud to the tune of $4.5 billion and N2.8 billion.

Justice Oshodi, in his ruling, admitted Emefiele to a N50 million bail with two sureties in like sum.

Oshodi ordered the sureties must be gainfully employed and must have made three years tax payment with the Lagos State government.

He also said that the sureties must show proper identification adding that they must be registered in the Lagos State Bail Management System.

The judge said he was satisfied with the bail conditions of N1 million, earlier given to Emefiele’s co-defendant, Henry Isioma-Omoli, who is facing another charge before Justice Olufunke Sule-Hamzat of Yaba High Court.

Oshodi, however, said the bail documents must be transferred to Special Offences Court and registered in the Lagos State Bail Management System.
