Kebbi Government has distributed 27 operational vehicles, worth N2 billion to various security agencies working in the state to tackle the challenge of insecurity.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Nigerian Police Force was given 10 vehicles while the Army got six.
Others were the Department of State Services (DSS), which got four, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) three, and Office of the Security Adviser to the Governor and Vigilante Commander which got one vehicle each.
Distributing the vehicles to the agencies in Birnin Kebbi on Thursday, Gov. Nasir Idris said the vehicles would give the agencies a sense of belonging and the commitment to protect lives and property of people in the state.
“We are making history again today because we are handing over 27 vehicles at the cost of N2 billion to security agencies in Kebbi State,” he said.
Idris added that security agencies had complained that for many years they were not given vehicles by previous administrations as support to tackle insecurity in the state.
“For this, we now find it necessary to procure 27 vehicles for them. We will also support them with other logistics and fuelling of the vehicles,” the governor said.
In his response, the Commissioner of Police in the state, Chris Aimionowane, who spoke on behalf of other heads of security agencies, assured the governor that the vehicles would be used to tackle banditry and other criminalities in the state.
“We will use it to patrol the hotspots and bandits hideouts,’’ he said.
On his part, the Special Adviser on Security to the governor, Retired Col. Danladi Hassan-Ribah, expressed appreciation to the governor for placing premium on security matters.
He assured that coordinated approach would serve as the strategy among security services to sustain security presence in all communities.
