STOP DEMONIZING OUR ANCESTORS: BIBLICAL AND QURANIC ANCESTORS ARE NOT BETTER!

December 7, 2023 2 min read

When we talk about ancestors, some Africans, especially the religious ones quickly associate it with idolatry or evil spirits.

Let’s clarify

Ancestors aren’t evil spirits; they’re the living essence of our DNA, no longer breathing physical air but existing through us.

These ancestors are the parents of our great-grandparents, some known to us and most unknown, tracing back to the mitochondria and the dawn of humanity.

My beloved grandparents are now ancestors, holding a special place in my heart.

Calling upon ancestors isn’t about invoking demons; it’s a sincere connection with the positive spirits of our fore-parents for guidance.

Figures like Abraham, David, Solomon and Jesus have also considered ancestors whether one is presumably a saviour.

Regardless of religious beliefs, we all share a common ancestry, carrying the DNA of our forebears within us.

Consider that one day, you too will be dead thereby becoming an ancestor, and your descendants may face misconceptions about you, similar to judgments some pass on ancestors as idols or oracles.

In my case, Amukpo, my last name, is tied to my ancestry, as ancestors are known as “Ésémor” or “Íníémor” in Isoko.😇

Most of our ancestors were wealthy and oblivious to religion.

They acquired a large expanse of lands through prosperity and ironically, these are the lands some of you sell to raise money and Japa to Obodo-Oyibo. Yet, you label them as demons.

Even Jesus was referred to as the son of David and Abraham in the Bible, tracing his ancestral root, but you black man, your ancestors are presumably evil. Issorite…😁

If you don’t know a word, ask questions…
