November 30, 2023 2 min read

The Ekiti State Independent Electoral Commission (EKSIEC) is set to conduct elections into the 16 local governments and 22 local council development areas (LCDA’s) in the state.

The council elections hold Saturday, December 2 across the state.

The commission will commence distribution of both sensitive and non-sensitive election materials to the local government and local council development areas today.

A statement issued on behalf of the Permanent Secretary of the commission, Barrister Modupe Akinbolawa, indicated that distribution of the election materials would hold at the commission’s premises, behind the State Library, Ado-Ekiti at 10:00am prompt.

The Chairman of the commission, Hon. Justice Cornelius Akintayo (rtd) had recently at a press conference in Ado-Ekiti, hinted of commencement of activities by the commission ahead of
the election.

Reelling out the activities of the commission ahead of the exercise, Justice Akintayo, flanked by other members of the commission said election of chairmen into the local governments and LCDAs as well as election of councillors into the 177 wards in the state would be conducted.

Collection and submission of nomination forms by various political parties participating in the election had held between 12th and 18th October, while submission of the list of qualified and unqualified candidates to political parties and replacement of candidates by political parties had also held from 6th to 10th November this year.

The EKSIEC had earlier published names of persons nominated by political parties and issuance of notice of polls on 20th November.

Meanwhile, all forms of electioneering campaigns by the participating political parties are to end today, as any candidate or political party found to be campaigning as from 12:00 midnight of today will face sanctions

The commission had well ahead of this time carried out aggressive awareness and mobilisation of voters on the needs to participate in the election and vote for the candidates of their choices.

All registered political parties in the country were fully mobilized to participate in the exercise.
