The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) Nigeria has announced its readiness to conduct its West African Senior School Certificate Examinations (WASSCE) electronically.
It said it would start the computer-based examination (CBE) with the private candidates(first series) in February, next year.
The Head of National Office of WAEC Nigeria, Mr Amos Dangut, made the announcement on Monday in a statement made available to newsmen by the spokesperson of the organisation, Mrs Moyosola Adesina.
According to WAEC, the migration of its WASSCE for private candidates examination diets from paper and pencil to computer-based examination (CBE) was in line with global best practices.
The organisation explained: “While the Objective Tests will now be fully Computer Based, the Essay and Test of Practical papers will be hybrid, in which the examination questions will be delivered on screen and candidates required to write answers on the answer booklets given to them.”
It explained further that the examination would be conducted in urban centres/cities and candidates with special needs had also been factored into the plan, even as registration for the examination was billed to commence from December 18, 2023.
“So, in order to enable candidates to familiarise themselves with the new examination platform, arrangements have been concluded for a mock examination to be conducted in February 2024, before the examination commences”, it said.
While the council implored all prospective candidates to hone their computer skills and be fully prepared to sit for CBE, it noted that all its exams would be conducted electronically in the near future.
