Lawmakers from the six South-West states have urged for increased backing for the South West Security Network Agency, also known as Amotekun Corps.
“This move aims to bolster regional safety” they said.
The call was made by the South-West Legislative Reform Implementation Committee (SLRIC) during a meeting in Osogbo, Osun State, on Saturday.
In a communique released by Ondo State House of Assembly Majority Leader Oluwole Ogunmolasuyi on Sunday, the lawmakers emphasized the need for stakeholders to view Amotekun Corps as a vital security force rather than a political tool.
It read in part, ” The SLRIC meeting focused on several key areas, notably the harmonization of standing orders across the South-West region. This critical reform aims to streamline legislative procedures and ensure that all Houses of Assembly in the South-West are aligned, fostering seamless governance and legislative efficiency.
“One of the significant topics of discussion was the state of security in the region. We emphasized the urgent need to strengthen the security architecture across the South-West. Our discussions have led to the formulation of strategies to bolster our region’s security. Our collective responsibility is to ensure that these plans are swiftly and effectively implemented.”
During the meeting, the representatives also urge for more concise policies that would help attract investment and drive economic growth in the region.
“The future of the South-West is not just in security and governance, but in unlocking the vast economic potential of our region. Let us work towards creating an environment where businesses can thrive, providing jobs and prosperity for our people,” the group charged
The SLRIC meeting brought together majority leaders from across the region to address pressing issues affecting legislative, security, and economic matters in the South-West.
