The Ogun State Government has attributed the poor condition of several roads across the state to neglect by the previous administration, stating that the Dapo Abiodun-led government remains committed to addressing the infrastructural challenges and ensuring even development across all communities.
The Special Adviser to the Governor on Information and Strategy, Kayode Akinmade, disclosed this in a statement issued on Tuesday, stressing that the current administration inherited a huge infrastructure deficit when it came into office in 2019.
Akinmade noted that Governor Abiodun’s government has embarked on the reconstruction of key roads in the Ifo, Sango Ota, and Idiroko axis, describing them as crucial to the economic and social life of residents in the border areas.
“The road in question, like many others in the Sango-Ota axis, had been in that deplorable state for many years before the coming of Governor Abiodun. They are part of the huge infrastructure deficit inherited by this administration in 2019,” he said.
According to him, the government is simultaneously working on four major highways in the area as part of efforts to improve connectivity and ease transportation for commuters and businesses.
Akinmade also pointed out that the state government has taken responsibility for repairing both state and federal roads within its territory, despite the financial burden involved.
“The 140-kilometre Abeokuta–Lagos Expressway is being fixed by the state government despite being a federal road,” he said. “The Sango–Idiroko road, which is also a Federal Government road, is under construction by the state government.”
He reaffirmed Governor Abiodun’s commitment to equitable development across the state, stressing that ongoing and completed projects reflect a deliberate effort to bridge infrastructure gaps and enhance the quality of life for residents.
Akinmade appealed to residents for continued patience and cooperation as the government intensifies road rehabilitation and construction works across different parts of the state.
