In a daring rescue operation, operatives of the Ekiti State Amotekun Corps have apprehended a 25-year-old man, Ojo Adewunmi, for allegedly attempting to rape a 19-year-old girl in Ilawe Ekiti.

The suspect was caught in the act on Tuesday by Amotekun operatives from the Ekiti South West Local Government Command, who responded swiftly to the girl’s cries for help.

According to Abiodun Adeleye, the Ekiti Amotekun Head of Communications, the victim was locked indoors by the suspect, who intended to sexually assault her.

However, the timely arrival of the Amotekun operatives foiled the suspect’s attempt, saving the girl from a horrific ordeal.

“The Amotekun officers who arrested the suspect reported that the victim was locked indoors by the suspect to sexually assault her. However, his attempt was foiled upon the arrival of the operatives,” Adeleye stated.

“The girl narrated her ordeal, explaining how she felt helpless and hopeless after screaming until the officers of the corps arrived to assist her.”

The suspect has been handed over to the Ilawe Ekiti Police Division for further investigation and possible prosecution.

The swift response of the Amotekun operatives has been praised for preventing a potentially devastating crime and ensuring the safety of the victim.
